Admissions
Applications are currently being accepted for the 2013 - 2014 school year! To request an admissions packet, schedule a tour or time for your child/children to shadow a class at St. Pius V School, call the school office at (401)421-9750 or email the principal, Sister Mary Veronica, at principal@stpiusvschool-ri.org. We look forward to hearing from you!
Students are admitted to Saint Pius V School at the discretion of the administration. Saint Pius V School admission policy prohibits discrimination against students of the basis of race, color, gender, or national origin. Preference is given to parishioners and Catholics.
The following are the steps of the application process:
Application Form
Applications to St. Pius V School will be accepted beginning in September of the year preceding enrollment. Applications may also be submitted during the course of the year for immediate enrollment, subject to the discretion of the principal.
An application form for each child must be filled out completely and mailed or delivered to St. Pius V School with copies of birth and baptism certificates, current immunization and health records, and a recent report card.
In addition, a "Release of Records" form is given to the current school of attendance, so that the following documents will be mailed to St. Pius V School: grades, standardized test scores, absence/tardy record, disciplinary action, and any other pertinent information.
Interview with the Principal
Upon receipt and review of the application materials, St. Pius V School will contact the family of new applicants and establish a time for an interview with the principal. If the child applying will be entering fifth grade or older, the principal will also interview the student and seek recommendations from the school of transfer.
Pre-K and Kindergarten Screening
New students entering Pre-K or K are required to attend a screening to assess abilities and readiness skills. The screening date will be in the spring. Applicants will be informed of the day and time to attend this screening. Additionally, students in other grades may also be required to attend a screening session to assess abilities.
Registration Form and Tuition Contract
Registration for the new families takes place in February. Families that have completed application forms will be sent a notice with dates and times for registration. A non-refundable registration fee is assessed ($80 per student), and parents sign a tuition contract for the following year.
When classes reach maximum size, registrants’ names are put on a waiting list. In the admissions process, registrants are admitted in order of the following preferences: children of faculty and staff, siblings who are parishioners, non-parishioner siblings, parishioners, children of alumni, children from other parishes, and finally non-Catholics.
Notice of Acceptance
A letter from the principal will be mailed within two weeks of the completion of the open registration period notifying parents if children have been accepted for enrollment the following year.
