Saint Pius V School - Enrichment

Enrichment

Chess Club

Saint Pius V School Chess Club is open to children in grades kindergarten through eighth grade. The club offers students the opportunity to learn basic strategies, to practice previously learned skills, and to challenge other students to a match. A faculty member acts as an advisor/coach with parent and college volunteers.

Student Council

The Saint Pius V Student Council is comprised of elected members from grades six through eight. Two representatives from each grade, as well as a president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer meet monthly with two faculty advisors to plan activities, dances, and charity dress down days.

Drama Club

Drama Club provides students in grades 5 through 8 the opportunity to learn about theatre production and performance. Theatre, dance, and music students from Providence College work in conjunction with a teacher from Saint Pius. Together, they give students an outlet to create a musical performance in the spring of each year.

Yearbook

Yearbook committee is comprised of two faculty members and primarily any eighth grade students interested in being involved with the yearbook creation. Faculty members coordinate meeting schedules to meet with yearbook publisher deadlines as needed. Students are involved with the photography and the page layout/designs.

Choir

Third through fifth grade students may participate in the School Choir. Students learn the music school liturgies, and sing in the choir at the Christmas Concert and on other occasions.

Recycle Club

The Recycling Club has members from Grades 5-8. Its mission is to reduce the amount of trash the school disposes of and increase the amount of material that is taken to a recycling facility. Club members also educate students and staff about recycling and energy use reduction. The club has been going strong for four years and has helped to significantly reduce St. Pius V School's negative impact on the environment. Join us in our efforts to "Go Green"!

Praise Team

Sixth through eighth grade students are invited to participate in the Praise Team, which assists in the preparation of music for school Masses. The Praise Team selects music for school Masses, practices weekly, and leads the school community in song.

Instrumental Program

Fifth grade through eighth grade students may participate in the school's Band. Students learn to play instruments and perform together at various concerts and events during the school year.

Scouts

Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts are two other parish sponsored organizations which many Saint Pius V school students belong. Meetings for both organizations are held either after school or during the evening in the church hall or at the homes of the adult group leaders.

Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School is a summer program based on a bible theme provided by the parish to all students in grades kindergarten to five. It is organized and staffed by volunteer parents and other adult parishioners. One key aspect of the program is the use of students in the middle school grades as volunteer “crew leaders”. Students are trained by staff members to lead the younger students through the week long activities.

Mass Club

On the first Friday of each month, all St. Pius V students are invited to participate in the school Mass Club. Students attend the 7:00 a.m. Mass at St. Pius V Parish, return to the school to discuss the lessons from the day's readings, and then enjoy breakfast and play time together until the school day begins.

Field Trips

Field Trips are an important feature to the co-curricular programs. A variety of field trips are experienced by all grades that supplement and/or augment the academic and cultural arts experiences of students at Saint Pius V. Bus transportation is normally arranged and provided by the school. For most field trips, parent chaperones assist the teachers in the supervision of the students.

After School Enrichment

Under the direction of a school employee and group of parent volunteers, various events are organized throughout the year to provide after-school enrichment opportunities for students of all ages.
